Superfood Face Mask for Glowing Skin
"Superfood" is a buzzword that is not going anywhere anytime soon. Used by nutritionists and wellness experts alike, in a nutshell, it's a word meant to categorize foods that have amazing health benefits such as antioxidants, vitamins and/or minerals.
We already love them in our recipes, either on their own or combined with other ingredients to get the most bang for our wellness buck; but did you know that they can also be used externally?
Yep, those same properties that make them good for your insides, can make them good for your outsides; and many beauty brands are taking advantage of the numerous benefits these superfoods can have for your skin.
This year, I've launched my organic, vegan superfood powders that can be used in a variety of ways, some of the blends can even be used as a face mask! I'm all about streamlining my beauty and wellness routines, so this is a great way to do it. I mean, when was the last time you made yourself a healthy smoothie, and then spread it on your face?
This is a really simple, two-ingredient face mask using my premium Lemon-Nopal superfood blend, available in limited quantities for the summer. It features organic lemon juice and nopal cactus, both in powder form. Lemon juice can help heal acne, large pores and blackheads, all while managing oily skin. It can also help to diminish dark spots. I've found that my skin is always super fresh and glow-y when I've added some lemon juice into my homemade face masks.
Nopal, or nopales, is one of my favorite new superfoods. Nopal comes from the pads of prickly pear cactus, similar to aloe vera. It's rich in antioxidants, including vitamins C and A. Nopal can help prevent and address premature aging issues such as wrinkles and age spots.
As a bonus, I've included a delicious tropical smoothie recipe using the Lemon-Nopal superfood powder at the end of this post!
P.S. It's hard to look cute with a Creature from the Black Lagoon/baby food-lookin' face mask on, but I did my best for you guys! lmbo
Here's the simple DIY instructions for the mask:
Combine 1 teaspoon of Organic Lemon Nopal Superfood Powder with enough filtered or mineral water to make a smooth paste that can easily be spread on your face. Add water a teaspoon at a time, I usually use 2-3 teaspoons. Apply to skin and leave on for twenty minutes. If you apply it in a nice, even layer, you can peel it right off. Rinse any remaining traces of the mask off with water and continue with your usual skin care routine. If you have very sensitive skin, skip the peeling off method and just rinse the mask off. Slightly reddish skin for 30-45 minutes after application indicates desired increased blood circulation.
*Tropical Lemon-Nopal Superfood Smoothie*
1-2 teaspoons Lemon-Nopal Superfood Powder
1 cup fresh cut pineapple
2-3 cups coconut milk (or any plant-based milk)
1/2 cup vegan coconut yogurt
agave, honey or maple syrup to taste
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. You can also add ice to make it more chilled.
Sip as you enjoy your superfood face mask!
*Add less liquid to enjoy it as a superfood smoothie bowl! You can top it with chia seeds and coconut flakes.*
