DIY Morning Ginger Shot

If you follow me on social media, then you know one of my favorite morning rituals is to start with a beneficial shot of ginger. It's super easy to make and you can prepare a mason jar of it at one time to last you through the whole week. And even better, no fancy equipment is required!

Originating in China, the benefits of ginger rhizomes (the bottom part of the stem) are numerous. Besides waking you up with that strong, distinctive flavor, ginger is known to help treat nausea, reduce muscle pain and soreness due to it's anti-inflammatory properties, treat indigestion and menstrual pain, contains antioxidants, and boosts immunity as well as helps to fight infection by boosting the immune system. As you can see, there's lots of reasons to try it! Read on below for the simple instructions. 

Ingredients

  • Ginger Root

  • Filtered Water

Directions

  1. Choose a thumb to hand length-sized piece of ginger and cut it into smaller chunks.

  2. Place chunks of ginger into a blender with 8 ounces of bottled or filtered water.

  3. Blend until the ginger is completely combined with the water and no large chunks remain.

  4. Strain the juice through a nut milk bag or cheesecloth. Compost or discard the leftover ginger pulp.

  5. Store for up to a week in a mason jar in the fridge with a non-reactive lid.

  6. Have a shot glass full to start your day with vitality and wellness!

Note: You can also sprinkle a little turmeric or cayenne powder on the top of the shot for extra flavor and benefits. If the flavor is too strong for you, you can add more water to the ginger juice.
